Week 1 Recap

Well I had an awesome week one highlighted by the fact that I had two great companions on and off the trail. It was an awesome way to get the trip started and ease my way into it.

Week 1 with Sarah and Erin

If you want to get a look at the pictures from the first week you can check them out here.

Some of the highlights include a trail dog, showing you how I filter water so I can always have something to drink, and a few wonderful outlooks along the trail. The one with my finger pointing to the top of a mountain is “Hump Mountain” and it’s actually 6 miles away from my camera. Doesn’t look that far but it was :)

Getting Started - Round 2

Well life got in the way a bit and I’m now starting my journey on April 11th! Given this later start a couple things are changing but the end goal is still the same, hike the entire AT.

  • Instead of starting at the southern point I will be starting near Asheville, NC. This is about where I should have been if I started on time so it just makes sense.
  • The route will now been from Asheville, up to the northern point in Maine, then fly back to Asheville and hike south to the end of the tail.
  • The new end date should be sometime in October.

I’m so excited to start this journey and I hope everyone enjoys following along 😃

My Gear

The start is getting closer! The gear is starting to get locked in and so I have cataloged everything. If your interested in what I am taking go and check out the Gear page. There are pictures and explanations for just about everything I have so far.

Getting Started

In getting ready for the trip I have had a lot of people ask how they can follow my progress along the way. Given that I will be in and out areas with cell reception its going to be tough. On top of that I can’t have my phone on all the time as carrying extra batteries to keep it powered is more weight!

With the help of some of my friends we have setup this website to keep everyone informed. As I sporadically send updates this site will be updated with my location and any other notes, comments, or pictures I am able to send over.
